July 14-15, 2021          9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. each day         Virtual Conference

 July 14: Setting the Stage for Access: Considerations for the Technology Environment

During the morning session, join us to get an orientation to resources, discuss decision-making when selecting tools for a student’s AT toolbox, and plan for digital workflow. Return in the afternoon for information about conducting a casual accessibility check and formatting digital multimedia for accessibility.

For an interactive experience, participants are encouraged to bring a personal computing device with access to Google Drive, a smartphone or mobile tablet, and any piece of paper with text or a children’s book.

 July 15: All About Switches and Implementation for Literacy

On day two, learn about switch accessibility for students with visual impairments who have extensive support needs. There will be guided practice opportunities with setting up a switch, computer device, and app. Also learn about conducting a Needs Assessment for assistive technology and justify a student’s need for technology. During the last part of the Institute, practice writing IEP goals that incorporate technology.

 For an interactive experience, participants are encouraged to bring a personal computing device with access to Google Drive, a Bluetooth or USB connected switch, and have a student case study in mind.

 Presenters:

(July 14-15) Dr. Ting Siu is a Teacher of Blind and Visually Impaired Students (TVI) and coordinates the Program in Visual Impairments at San Francisco State University. She has worked with students of all ages with visual impairments and additional disabilities including deaf-blindness. Her research focuses on enhancing TVIs’ proficiency with access technology, social media for ongoing professional development, and innovations in multimedia accessibility. (July 15) Bruce McClanahan is the Assistive Technology Coordinator at the Washington State School for the Blind.
